Title: Ammar is Asia’s rep for Brain Bee contest
written on Friday 10 August 2012 @ 06:50 ✈{ 0 comments }

Seventeen-year-old Ammar Ahmad Mokhtar never thought he would ever have the honour of representing Malaysia in an international competition.
That was until he was chosen to represent not just the country but the whole of Asia in the International Brain Bee competition in South Africa next month.
The SM Sains Tengku Muhammad Faris Petra student in Pengkalan Chepa beat nine students to qualify for the invitation of the competition's founder Assoc Prof Dr Robert Mylinski from the University of Maryland, United States.

“I worked very hard for the competition and made all the preparations but when I saw my competitors were very brainy', I gave up hope of winning. Instead, the reverse happened, so I feel very blessed,” he said at the Universiti Sains Malaysia Hospital complex recently.

Ammar Ahmad, who will be sitting for his SPM examination this year, said he was nervous about taking part in the competition because he felt responsible for winning the competition for his school and country.
“I am preparing myself to the hilt because this time around, I am faced with international-standard adversaries. I shall try my best to get into the top three,” said Ammar Ahmad, who aspires to become a lecturer.
Ammar Ahmad will be joining 10 participants representing four continents in the competition that will be held in Cape Town, South Africa, from July 21 to July 27.
The International Brain Bee is a not-for-profit neuroscience competition for high school students.
